How Starlink works in Iran

The terminal connects to the Starlink constellation and shares internet over its own Wi-Fi, or over the router in the box. In Iran that connection is not a second bill: the connection subscription is free across Iran and activates after the kit purchase.

The connection subscription is free across Iran; no subscription payment is needed to use the equipment in Iran. Monthly plans are only needed for use outside Iran.

From the right kit to a live connection

  1. 1. Match the kit to where you use it

A fixed home and a family: the Standard 4 Home Kit. One or two people in an apartment: Mini. Many devices in a compact space: Mini X. Road trips, a villa, and field work: the Travel Kit, which is Mini hardware.

  2. 2. Order the hardware on its own

The price on the page is the kit price. For use inside Iran, do not add a monthly plan. Register the free connection subscription with the order so it can activate after residency and the device serial are confirmed.

  3. 3. Give the dish a clear view of the sky

Mini and the Travel Kit sit on a flat surface or a stand within minutes. The Home Kit is for a fixed roof or yard install. The Starlink app shows obstructions.

  4. 4. Create the network in the app and submit the serial

Once the terminal is on, create the Wi-Fi network in the Starlink app. Submit the kit serial or account email on StarPing order tracking so the free Iran connection activates on that device.

  5. 5. Add a monthly plan only for use outside Iran

If the kit stays in Iran, this is the whole path. A monthly Residential or Roam plan is for the case where use outside Iran is certain.

Frequently asked questions

What do I buy besides the kit to get online in Iran?
Nothing else for the connection itself. The connection subscription is free across Iran. A longer cable or a roof mount is a separate accessory, and only when the install needs it.
How is a home install different from Mini?
The Home Kit has the larger dish and usually stays in one place. Mini and the Travel Kit move with you and turn on with a clear view of the sky.
Does it work while driving?
In-motion use on a vehicle needs a dedicated mount from the accessories section. A stop on the road or at a villa uses the Travel Kit kickstand.
What if I later leave Iran?
The hardware stays the same. For use outside Iran you add a monthly plan that matches a fixed stay or travel. Inside Iran the free connection subscription is the path.
What speed and latency should I expect in Iran?
The ranges printed on StarPing kit cards are 25–100 Mbps for Mini and the Travel Kit, 50–120 Mbps for Mini X, and 100–300 Mbps for the Home Kit. Sky view and network load set where you land in that range. Floor number does not. Latency is higher than city fiber because the signal goes to orbit and back. Video calls and streaming run with a clear view of the sky. A monthly gaming plan is not required for use inside Iran.
Where do I put the dish in an apartment?
Outside the glass, where the Starlink app shows no obstruction: the balcony floor, the terrace edge, or the roof if you can use it. Coated double glazing and a metal screen close the path to the satellites. Mini, Mini X, and Home Kit choice for that spot is on the apartment installation page.
